My Top Oral Care Practices

As we strive for optimal overall health, more information is coming to the surface about how important our teeth really are and how connected they are to our entire body. There are so many great holistic practices that are showing major benefits. Some of my favorite oral care practices i’ve implemented in the last few years while on my healing journey are, Oil Pulling, using a Tongue Scraper, Tooth Powder (DITCH the fluoride), and remineralizing mouth wash. Here’s why I love them:

Oil Pulling: Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic practice that involves swishing oil, typically coconut or sesame oil, in the mouth. It is known for its ability to draw out toxins and bacteria from the oral cavity and can contribute to fresher breath, reduced plaque buildup, and improved gum health, creating a clean slate for the rest of your oral care routine.

Tongue Scraper: Tongue scraping is a simple yet effective practice that helps eliminate bacteria, debris, and dead cells from the surface of the tongue. The use of a tongue scraper can help prevent the buildup of harmful bacteria that can lead to issues such as bad breath and plaque formation. It’s a very simple practice with big benefits!

Tooth Powder: Goodbye toothpaste. Hello Tooth Powder. This stuff has changed the oral care game for me! This is a remineralizing tooth powder that can help strengthen your teeth! Yes, strengthen! Hydroxyapatite is a naturally occurring mineral that makes up our bones and teeth. It makes up over 90% of the foundation of your tooth’s enamel. This tooth powder is packed full of specially chosen ingredients like:

  • Hydroxyapatite, the mineral that makes up enamel used to remineralize your teeth and reduce sensitivity

  • Essential oils to help battle gum disease and add a minty taste for fresh breath

  • Xylitol to kill the bad bacteria in the mouth, but leave the good bacteria alone.

Remineralizing Mouthwash: A natural, alcohol-free mouthwash completes the oral care routine by reaching areas that brushing and flossing might miss. Using antimicrobial agents like tea tree oil or peppermint oil, mouthwash helps kill bacteria, freshen breath, and promote a clean and healthy oral environment and is the perfect finishing touch to your routine! A healthy mouth is linked to a reduced risk of greater health issues, making this approach an investment to not just your smile, but your overall health!
